Being involved in a car accident or truck accident is definitely not a preferred option for anyone. Accidents happen and handling everything after that effectively will help in alleviating too much trouble. If involved in an accident, there are several procedures to follow for your safety and ease of handling. First thing always is, switch off your engine and assess physical injury. If your vehicle is in reasonable running condition, try to move to the road shoulder. In the case of a severe accident, if you are safe then switch on your hazard lights and exit the vehicle immediately ensuring that it is safe to get out of the vehicle. Also assess your fellow occupants and ensure that they are alright and get everyone to leave the vehicle and to move to safety, off the road.

The primary thing to assess in a car accident is personal injury. Make sure that neither you nor your occupants are injured. Next check on the other party involved in the accident. Ensure that they have not sustained any personal injury and in the case of an injury, take action to ensure immediate treatment. Knowing first aid would be an advantage until professional medical aid arrives. The extent of damage due to the accident is to be determined and noted. Immediately inform the police about the car accident. Updating your attorney on the situation would be a good idea, especially if you determine that you are the cause of the accident.

Once you have all the details, ensure that your facts reach the police. Many people make mistakes here during a truck accident. They do not get all the correct details including names and addresses of the other people involved. Ensure that you give the right details to the Police. Talk to them alone about the accident after which you can call your insurance agent. Having your attorney present while talking to the police is an added benefit though not really a necessity. Ensure that all the proper paperwork is completed as filing a claim for a car accident can be difficult if the record is not straight.
