A work transfer was the beginning of an emotional journey that would make me part with my wife. The post was in a foreign country in which the company operated a chain of retail business. The travel was company sponsored and I could not really rely on spontaneous return trips to see my family again. Although it was a promotion, it was hard enough to leave my beloved wife and our three year old son not knowing when I would get an opportunity to see them again. Sitting outside the porch as we watched the last rays of the sun go down, I told her that our souls would always be together despite the distance. I told her that I would miss her eyes, laughter, hands, lips and the comfort and support she always gave me. Though the experience will be tantamount in our lives, the separation is a mild one and at any opportunity, I will try to fly back just to be with her and our son. I will still honor and love her across the boundaries and keep the feelings alive. Communication through the phone and internet would be our daily gateway for comfort from one other though loneliness and emotional torture may persist. Our intimacy would compound my farewell before departure.
But if it were vice versa, and that she was the one transferring to another city for work, I would want her to assure me that our love would surpass the boundaries, and that we would keep to our commitment as husband and wife and to our lovely son.
If the situation dictated that I would never see her again, I would take it upon myself to make her as happy as possible, possibly take her to an intimate dinner, but lastly explain myself and the situation. As hurting or emotionally draining it would be on both of us, knowledge is an important consolation for her from mourning the separation. She will always be in my heart in my soul.
