Ankle Tendonitis – If You Feel Pain, Beware
Whether you believe it or not your feet support your body. You need to take care of them the best you can. If you start to feel pain and / or swelling in the ankle area of the foot, you could be showing signs of ankle tendonitis and you should take care of this immediately.

Runners and joggers can get into a training mode that can be sometimes hard on their ankles. This also can happen to people who have jobs that required them being on their feet constantly. What can happen is that you may start to develop tendonitis in your ankles.
What is tendonitis? It is really just an inflammation of the tendon. The tendon is used to connect the bone to the actual muscle. What happens sometimes if the tendon gets overworked or you may put too much force on a particular tendon you could develop tendonitis.
Some symptoms of tendonitis are swelling, pain and the area that is swollen is tender to the touch. It could be difficult to move the ankle without a shooting pain going from the ankle to the calf.
There is another similar tendonitis which is called Achilles tendonitis. This is the inflammation of the Achilles tendon and this is very common form of ankle tendonitis. These two types of tendonitis occur in runners and people on there feet a lot.
Treatment for Ankle Tendonitis
Now let’s talk a bit about what you can do at home if you are suffering a mild case of ankle tendonitis. One thing that will work wonders is to use an ice pack. A bag of frozen pea’s can work great for this. You want to use the ice for 15 minutes at a time. Wrap your ankle if you need to be on your feet, this will help support the ankle and keep it in place and help prevent further injury.
Cortisone injections sometimes work well for tendonitis. But using them when you have ankle tendonitis is somewhat scary thing to do. The ankle tendon can rupture easy if used improperly, so doctor’s try to avoid them if possible. You can try to put a cushion in your shoe, this will help support the foot and can help with the pain if you need to be on your feet.
Your feet are going to carry you for a long time and keeping them injury free is important. This will include not getting ankle tendonitis. If you avoid taking care of the problem, you risk developing permanent injury and that is not something you want to do.
If you start to feel pain or swelling in your ankle and you have had ankle tendonitis in the past, you need to try and not over do it. One thing that you may want to do is to talk to a physical therapist or even an orthopedic doctor to learn how to not injure or learn to maneuver your feet during physical activity. This will help prevent further damage. If you can, get off your feet and give them a chance to rest.
