Give a Spa Gift Basket to a Hardworking Friend

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008
by Kim Allarie

You almost certainly are acquainted with a few overburdened women. They put in a jam-packed day at work to help make ends meet, and then they arrive home to get supper on the table, clean up and spend some time with the kids. You can’t help but respect their commitment and hard work. A pleasant surprise for this woman would be a spa gift basket to give her an opportunity to unwind and indulge. Consider these suggestions to create a personal gift to show your admiration.

Start by searching for an elegant basket. You might want to check out craft stores, discount stores or even a second hand store for just the right basket. Make sure it’s large enough to hold everything that you plan to include. You might even want to paint the basket to match your color scheme.

Next you’ll select the contents of your spa gift basket. Keep in mind that the whole point of this present is to persuade your friend to unwind, so look for items that will make over her bathroom into a luxurious spa experience.

Start with towels: a soft, fluffy bath towel with matching wash cloth and hand towel. Roll up the towels individually and secure each of them with a pretty bow. Now find an aromatic candle in a coordinating color. Place this in the center of the basket, and position the towels around it.

Next you’ll want to add some bath products, again keeping to your color and scent theme. Bath oil or beads, specialty soap and bubble bath are good choices. Also, pick up a bath sponge or loofah for gentle exfoliation. Place these items around the candle, with an eye to balancing shape and size of the various products. You might wish to pick up a pre-made bath set containing a variety of products. Just open up the package and arrange the individual products however you desire.

The latest bestselling book and some relaxing music will make a lovely addition to your spa gift basket. Nothing relaxes you quite like music, and an enthralling book will take your friend’s mind off her hectic schedule and help her unwind.

The spa experience doesn’t have to end when the tub is drained. Add a bottle of body lotion for the icing on the cake. If you’re going all out, add some creams and lotions targeted to specific body parts, such as feet, hands, or elbows.

Another great idea is to include a certificate for a manicure, pedicure or massage. And so she won’t have to figure out how to get away for an appointment, enclose a card with an offer to baby-sit. Then she’ll be able to enjoy getting her nails done without worrying about the kids.

A spa gift basket is a considerate present for any busy, overworked woman and will be much appreciated. It will revitalize her, erase the day’s pressure, and get her primed to start over the next day.

T-Shirt - A Versatile Piece of Clothing

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008
by Kathy Austin

The conception and birth of the t-shirt was a normal occurrence. Nothing complicated. It might have passed off into the history of fashion without a walk down any of the world’s long ramps had not some subsequent events taken place. But its evolution, though short like is arm is quite an interesting one. For it started on its journey to fame as a humble underwear.

The T-Shirt began its existence as a humble piece of clothing hidden under another layer of clothing or sometimes under layers of clothing that men wore. It spent its life hidden away, soaked in his sweat, either because of his toils or because of the climate or just because of some metabolic quirk that he had. Some times he sweated for some primeval reason.

In the beginning the it was known only as a piece of underwear. The concept of underwear did not really take off till the early twentieth century when in 1901 the P.H. Hanes Knitting Company started the manufacture of men’s underwear. But it was the Navy that really accelerated my evolution when it issued my predecessor, a piece of apparel with a crew neck and short sleeves with a T like outline (hence the T-Shirt) during World War I.

From then on its development was extraordinary. It had to be worn. There was no discrimination between the sexes nor was it restricted to a certain age. It was considered to be cool - literally and figuratively. It became a national phenomenon and when it became a political tool for propaganda it reached its heyday. For a fact, the Smithsonian Institute boasts ownership of the oldest printed t-shirt on record, a shirt used during the then Governor of New York, Thomas E. Dewey’s 1948 presidential campaign with the phrase “Dew-IT with Dewey” on it.

From then on its growth was phenomenal. Everybody was wearing one. It was something cool - literally and figuratively. Its history even has a political edge to it and the Smithsonian Institute boasts ownership of the oldest printed T-Shirt on record, imprinted with the phrase “Dew-IT with Dewey” from New York Governor Thomas E. Dewey’s 1948 presidential campaign.

This simple and inexpensive apparel became a means of displaying opinions, jokes, one-liners, graphic messages and the like. Anything and everything printable would have at one time or another been printed on it. Further developments in printing technology only helped in increasing its overall reputation. Now that the Internet is here, customizing a t-shirt to suit one idiosyncrasies is just a matter of mouse and keyboard use.

Jokes, one-liners, graphically symbolic messages, you name it and they all appeared on the simple, inexpensive piece of dress shaped like a “T”. As printing technology developed it became more and more graphical. Mass production techniques just edged it on the more.

What one wears speaks volumes of wearer; this is a well known saying but the humble t-shirt manages to say a lot more that the others. You just can’t beat a t-shirt.

Throwing A Fantastic Mod Mom Baby Shower

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008
by Lisa Evans

Tired of the same old traditional baby shower themes? If you want to celebrate the mom in a stylish, updated dcor, consider using the Mod Mom theme for your shower. It’s a perfect theme to use for a working mom!

Marketed by Creative Expressions, the theme includes a line of designs that highlight the mother to be, rather than the child. If you want to celebrate the mom, this is a great option for your design theme.

Incorporating lively greens, pinks, and lavenders, the color scheme for this pattern is very much up to date. Small accents of rose, magenta, and pastel blue compliment the primary image of a pregnant mother under an umbrella.

The designers at Creative Expressions have created over 20 different items in this theme including coordinated invitations, plates, napkins, centerpieces, banners and more. All are color coordinated, and there is almost everything you need for your baby shower decorations.

One of the most useful items in the pattern is a scrapbook kit that uses all the Mod Mom colors and dcor items. The kit includes pages that can be placed in your scrapbook, with places for photos, keepsakes, and mementos of the special day. The 12 inch sheets fit standard scrapbooks.

When planning your shower, consider incorporating solid colors from the pattern into your room decorations. If you are going for a gender neutral theme for the baby, the lavender, green, and magenta colors are bright, and work well. There are also pink accents if you wish to tie in more of an “it’s a girl” flair to your event. Light blue accents in the cups, and napkins can also help you adapt the theme for the mother of a baby boy.

Using solid color accents and decorations can help keep costs down, while adding excitement and polish to your decorations. Consider selecting a few of the colors of the them to highlight, and bring out with solid color streamers, cutlery, napkins, or balloons.

When planning your cake, or baked goods, remember to get an extra plate or napkin for the baker to use as inspiration. Have them incorporate the Mod Mom colors, or the image of the mom under the umbrella, into the cake design.

Floral arrangements using pinks, lavenders, and magenta colors are perfect for accenting the design. The design also features large pink polka dots on the umbrella, so you can incorporate dots into diaper cakes, and table sprinkles for your room.

If you are looking for a modern, stylish decorating theme for a baby shower, take a look at the Mod Mom theme. It is available from several on-line retailers, and local party stores.

Babysitter Search Options

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008
by Rashel Dan

You may be on the verge of a babysitter search. The question is, do you have any idea where you can even find good sitters? There are a couple of good places where you could start looking for a sitter. Here are some of them:

Neighborhood

Start in your community. Some of your teen neighbors may be willing to baby sit for you. You could also put up an ad on your front lawn and wait for community members to apply. Another way would be to personally ask your neighbors if they know of any good sitters. Many parents swear that this is by far still the best way to get a good sitter. Your neighbor can vouch for the ability and character of your sitter. Then again, even neighbors can make mistakes. They may not be fully aware of a sitter’s entire background or history.

Schools

Colleges and high schools are also good source of potential sitters. Many students on these levels need some extra cash for school needs and extra expenses. Advertising in a few online or offline school boards would guarantee that you would have more than a handful of prospects.

Sitters from schools are also least likely to have any criminal records. Otherwise they wouldn’t be in school. Nonetheless, you should still carefully screen applicants from schools to determine their character and ability.

Agencies

Babysitting Agencies - Your babysitter search can also begin in agencies. Many agencies have been around for decades. They would therefore have a lot of experience in gathering good sitters. Agencies also provide you with the option of stay in or stay out sitters. They usually conduct background investigations on their applicants to ensure that you get a good sitter. Agencies however typically cost a lot. This is especially if you need to get a stay in sitter from another region or country. You may have to spend a thousand dollars or more to get a good sitter.

Advertisements

The Yellow Pages - People who wish to offer their services typically advertise. You can look through newspapers, yellow pages and even online job posts to find a baby sitter in your area. You would be hiring a virtual stranger though. This means that if you get a sitter through an advertisement, you would have to spend a great amount of time interviewing, screening and scrutinizing your prospects. You can never be too careful when it comes to the safety of your kids.

Online Services

Online services are similar to agencies. They have databases of sitter prospects that you can choose from. Many modern online services however charge cheaper. For a monthly or yearly membership fee, you can get a stay in or stay out sitter of your choice. These services also typically conduct background checks on potential sitters and let parents personally interview prospects. You also benefit from a number of parent resources that can give you advice on dealing with sitters.

These are the basic starting points for your babysitter search. You can choose the method that is most convenient for you. You should however always put your child’s safety and welfare first. Pick the option where you are most certain to get a reliable sitter.

Can Marriage Be Saved After An Affair?

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008
by Alex Archer

There are few things that have such potential for destroying a relationship as betrayal has. Affairs destroy trust and shatter hope. An affair is not only a physical betrayal, but it is also a emotional betrayal. Sex is never just sex. However, if the connection in the marriage is strong enough, even an affair can be overcome, and the marriage can become even stronger than it has ever been.

The most important thing to do as part of the recovery process is rebuilding trust. It will be an uphill battle for the person who had the affair to regain the trust of his or her partner, however, with enough accountability and transparancy this can be achieved.

Nothing will test your love and commitment quite like being betrayed in this way. It is hard, but realistic, that this can be overcome and the benefits will be worth the effort. Things such as physical love and emotional love will not be easy to convey to your partner, but these things will be realized with a lot of hard work. It will not be fast and it will not be easy, but it can be done. It will take at least 18 months to work through the recovery process and must be accompanied by building new, healthier habits by both spouses.

One of the main things to be learned will be to compromise. This must be done in order to continue in the recovery process. A new and better relationship must be created and habits and attitudes will need to evolve.

It is very trying to get over the mental anguish caused by infidelity and the relationship will stand little chance if this cannot be overcome.

In the recovery process, it may take a long time to reestablish the level of intimacy, both physical and emotional, that was present before. Now is the time to focus on the other parts of your relationship and seeing the other good qualities of your spouse. This may be the best opportunity to strengthen your marriage that you will ever have. However, this will take time and it is better to do it right the first time than to try and try again.

Even with all the strides taken to repair your relationship, it still may not be able to be saved. Your partner may not even think it is worth saving. The recovery process, however, can make your marriage even stronger than it was before and the person who had the affair may just realize what they wanted was at home waiting, but many trials must be passed before forgiveness can take place.

Sometimes, there is just no way to recover a marriage after a betrayal such as an affair. Both people must want to save the relationship and be willing to fight for it. Humans are designed to want intimacy with others and someone to share all that life has to offer. Peace is often found through this intimacy and can be achieved even after an affair.

Several ways to Make Your Move More Economical

Monday, April 28th, 2008
by L.Buckley

Before you move, you need to consider some things first. Think seriously about the difference in the cost of living from where you are at now. Each area of a country offers its own unique and diverse culture, opportunity and rewards. You need to make sure the economical status that you are accustomed to is going to be about the same if not more than where you live now.

If your thinking about how hard can moving really be, you know, when all you have to do is just rent a truck, load up your stuff and go on your way. This can be a good and convenient choice if you’re not going far, and don’t have a lot of things to haul and especially if you have a strong back or a bunch of relatives to help you out.

If you are thinking of relocating from a small town to a big city, then that may mean moving to a more stressful work environment. Some employees may appreciate the calm of a small town, whereas some may not. Think thoroughly about all aspects of relocating before you actually make the move.

For your protection and peace of mind make sure you get what you pay for and ask specifically that the people who are coming to pack your home are professional movers and packers and not just a crew hired for the day. You should use properly designed and specific boxes that are made for specific items to pack your stuff in.

But think twice about a long distance do-it-yourself move. When you factor in all the costs, gasoline, motels, meals, insurance, packing materials, truck and equipment rental, you may not save as much as you planned.

Ensure that the new location would provide you with good schools if you have children. Aside from schools, make sure this area also has other activities that you can do there after work or during your time off, such as a good mall with a good movie theater, regular shopping centers, and the close proximity of some “fun” places where you can go get away from it all for short periods of time.

From where can you purchase life insurance cover?

Monday, April 28th, 2008
by Chris Clare

Of the many different reasons for the purchase of life insurance by far the most important is the coverage it affords your family and loved ones in the event for your untimely passing. Firstly, your life insurance policy will cover the absence of your wage to help your family financially. Apart from this being of help on a daily basis it can be used to clear any debts that may have been accrued and also to meet the financial obligations of funeral costs. So where exactly is the best place to look when seeking a life insurance policy?

Life insurance can be obtained from many different places, some of which you may not yet know of. Probably the first place you would think of would be a life insurance company, a selection of which can be easily found in your phone book or by looking for advertisements in local newspapers. Whichever way you choose, you should get a good cross section of offers so that you can compare what is available to you. Shop around. When dealing directly with insurance companies you probably won’t be dealing with someone one to one as these companies tend not to have sales teams, so be sure to consider this when deciding how you want to find the life insurance policy for you.

Many websites on the Internet offer you a one-stop shopping place where you can compare prices of many different insurance plans with the click of a mouse. This can be very helpful when comparing rates from different companies. Generally the companies on the Internet can offer you lower rates than those for life insurance companies as they get special deals from the companies just for using the Internet.

One thing you must do before you go life insurance shopping is to remind yourself what exactly it is that you are on the hunt for. If you are insuring both you and your significant other, make sure you get an insurance policy each. It can occur that a joint policy can leave one of you without cover in the event of the others death. At least if you insure both of you separately, you know both of you and your children are well protected.

The money paid out when a policy is cashed in is generally deemed as being tax free but you should be aware that the money can, on occasions, be hit with an inheritance tax which is set at 40%. Now, by anyones standards, that is a considerable amount of money to be losing on your payout. So you must be very clear about exactly what will happen to the policy in the event of death and that it will work out in both you and your families best interests.

A good way to avoid the nasty surprise that is inheritance tax is to put the entire policy into a trust fund. By doing that you will be ensuring that the entirety of the fund will go exactly where you want it to go; to your loved ones. There are different types of funds which let you control where and how the money is paid out, and you can normally examine these options for free. Having said that, it is possible that some insurance companies and online operators will not have very much experience when it comes to arranging trust funds, so it is always worthwhile to give them a ring and discuss it further first.

We cannot stress enough the importance of doing your research when buying life insurance. It is the only way to ensure getting the best offer available and at the best price. No-one wants to think too much about dying, but unfortunately it is destined to happen, even to the best of us, and it is important to know that when you go, your nearest and dearest are well looked after financially, hence the necessity for life insurance policies.

So we’ll say it again, do your homework and do it well. Know what you want and why you want it. Make sure that the insurance provider you go for is able to accommodate any changes you may need along the way and at little or no charge. And of course be price conscious. You will most probably get the best price online, but heed this tip; Look for a price comparison promise so that you know you will always be getting the best price available.

Cheap Flowers Delivery

Monday, April 28th, 2008
by James Markus

History has taught us to associate “cheap” with items that are shoddy or badly constructed. However, that is not necessarily the case. It is possible for quality to sit comfortably with low prices. This is the case for flower delivery. Shop around, and it is possible to locate attractive and freshly picked blooms at a discount.

When people think of cheap flowers, they think of batches of flowers or big bundles of sub-par roses that come from discount florists (who don’t generally offer all of the advantages of a higher-end floral shop). They might not have ties with any other businesses and often have either limited or nonexistent delivery options.

Other cheap flowers could be marked down because they are past their prime and won’t look good for more than a couple of days. For a dinner party or other one night even they may do, but would not do to send to someone you care for as a gift. They are okay as mark down, but their usefulness is limited.

A better way to get good, cheap flowers, that still have good quality and freshness would be through a discount online florist. These companies work in large volumes which allows them to offer much lower prices without the commensurate loss of quality at a retail store. For this reason they represent both value and thrift.

As one would expect, Internet florists generally offer many of the same payment plans as other web businesses. You can send flowers using a credit card, debit card, or other major form of electronic payment. You will be surprised at the vast number of different bouquets available for delivery in every possible price range.

Sources for inexpensive flowers can be found on Internet search engines by typing in “flowers” and “inexpensive” Some companies might even come up if you search for “cheap florists.” Why pay top dollar? Discount flower delivery services offer real values to smart shoppers. Those shopping on a shoestring will be able to send a gift of flowers that otherwise might be too expensive, or be able to find a larger, better gift for the same price they would pay for small arrangement from an expensive florist.

So You or Someone You Love Has Depression?

Saturday, April 26th, 2008
by Christine Sutherland

One of the worst aspects of depression is the tendency to withdraw and to be “unreachable” by the very people who want to help, or can help! There’s a cultural tendency to avoid “interfering” and so family and friends might avoid making suggestions (or even demands) on the basis that the person will “come right”. Or alternatively the depressed person might be assailed with well-meaning but pointless advice to “pull up his/her socks” or “look on the bright side” or whatever.

None of these things are in the least bit useful.

Because depression impacts so damagingly on everyone in the family, it is a family matter - not just a matter for the sufferer. Depression can be life or death, and life and death issues well and truly take precedence over privacy issues! So while you might be trying to avoid upsetting the depressed person in order to keep their stress levels down, this won’t extend to avoiding demands to get treatment.

But many times families can work together to ensure against the development of depression, or to quickly turn depression around when it does arise, if only they understand the crucial role played by important lifestyle factors.

One common enough cause of depression is dehydration. It’s true that in the past we might have overestimated people’s need for fluid intake, but we still find clients presenting with depression from that cause alone. If dehydration is the cause, you’ll see an almost miraculous resolution of depression immediately the person begins eating and drinking normally again.

Physical activity levels can also play a role in depression. Inactivity has a high association with depression, and 2 separate studies (McGill University in the USA, and The Lifeworks Group in Perth, Western Australia) have shown that depression can be resolved very rapidly with the introduction of a brisk, daily 30-minute walk with a partner or group.

In fact there are some 17 lifestyle “mistakes”, each one of which is capable of producing depression. Unfortunately these mistakes have become so common that in some families and communities they are the new norm! In protecting yourself and your family from depression, it pays to look over the check list and get life back on healthy track again!

Because depression rates are escalating so quickly, we need to do something rather urgently, and for that reason the book “17 Solutions” outlining the lifestyle mistakes and describing the answers, is freebie for anyone who wants to resolve depression in their family.

While lifestyle factors can be said to underpin the development of depression and other disorders, of course that’s just part of the picture. Another important factor is the thinking patterns developed by the sufferer, that become habitual and hold the depression in place. The family can help here by acting as role models of health and wellbeing and refusing to get “sucked in” to the depression. This doesn’t mean being uncompassionate - rather it means being caring but firm.

As well as intelligent help from the family, it’s essential for the sufferer to receive therapy in order to firstly resolve issues that may have helped create the depression, and secondly to eliminate unwanted thoughts and feelings that keep the depression in place. BMSA should be the treatment of choice in most cases, provided that is delivered by a properly qualified health professional, in the context of a comprehensive therapy plan.

The book “Relieving Depression - Quickly, Easily and Safely” describes how BMSA is used both in therapy and as a self-help method.

A professional counsellor will ask a host of questions relating to family and life history in order to throw a light on other factors that can play a part in the development of depression. But therapy is more than just talking about these things - it’s about working together to solve issues more easily, more creatively, and more effectively, in order to live a more satisfying life.

Most people are well aware of privacy legislation and the fact that therapy is private. Normally your therapist may not disclose to ANYONE what occurs in therapy, other than their supervisor, and then only in a way that does not identify the client. However when suicidality is an issue the therapist is required by law to get written permission to pass specific information to specific people, in order to protect the client.

The therapist will certainly want to help the sufferer to return to a happy and fulfilling life, but in the meantime must take all possible action to ensure he/she survives.

In the matter of antidepressants, if you or a family member has been taking antidepressants and begin to feel better, or simpy want to stop taking the drug, please do so only under the supervision of your specialist. The effects of rapid reduction or withdrawal have the potential to be tragic.

The main point of this article has been that by attending to lifestyle issues and also to depressed, habitual thinking styles, depression can be resolved very quickly, and also permanently, provided you avoid disproven therapies such as “talk” therapies, or CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) styles. Purchase a comprehensive manual on depression treatment, work with a good therapist, and also look out for excellent information and support on the net.
